Social Media Done the Right Way

Since we seem to spend a lot of time pointing out to people what is wrong with their social media I thought today I would share an example of a business doing things well.

It starts with a funny tweet sent by Tyler Oakley to Virgin America, Tyler is a YouTuber, not just any YouTuber he is one of a new generation of YouTube celebrities and has an absolutely huge following.

Here is how Tyler’s audience stacks up

  • 1.5 Million Twitter followers
  • 2.4 Million Youtube followers
  • 1 Million Instagram followers
  • 473 Thousand Facebook fans

From the above list you can clearly see that when Tyler decides to tweet your business getting your response exactly right has the potential to give a positive impression to a huge number of people just from his twitter feed, make a good impression and he might just mention you in one of his videos.

So lets work out the financial cost of promoting a tweet to 1.5 million people. Assuming a CPE rate of $2 (very reasonable for an airline) that would give us a cost of $3000.00 so when his tweet lands you are presented with an exceptional opportunity to present your business to a wider audience.

As you can see from the screenshot below the guys at Virgin did a great job and delivered a reply that did far more for their brand that if they had spent the cash necessary to reach the same audience with an advert or sponsored message.
